About WHOA

The Working-class and Houseless Organizing Alliance (WHOA) was founded in the summer of 2018 in Greensboro, North Carolina. We started through the simple act of bringing water and crackers to houseless members of our community. Over the years we have grown into an organization that continues to distribute food and supplies on a weekly basis, provides full community meals bimonthly, works toward the political education of the masses, and advocates for working-class concerns to local government bodies and online.

We are committed to building solidarity among all sectors of the working class: everyone who must work to survive, who struggles to afford basic human necessities, who is closer to homelessness than to achieving the capitalist vision of wealth. That is, most of us.

We organize against those who profit by gatekeeping fundamental needs: the bosses, landlords, police, and politicians who continue to choose their own interests and illusions over the safety, health, and survival of their community members.

We know we can construct a better world, one that is oriented not for the financial profit of a few, but for the well-being of many.
